On June 19, earlier in the day, Mr. Modi explored the ancient ruins of Nalanda, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Rajgir. On June 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar. Ambassadors from 17 different countries were also present to witness the occasion.

Additionally, ambassadors from 17 countries joined the celebrations at the newly established university campus.


Earlier that day, Prime Minister Modi visited the ruins of Nalanda Mahavihara, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Nalanda district of Bihar. These ancient ruins are the remnants of a significant monastic and scholastic institution, featuring stupas, shrines, viharas (residential and educational buildings), and exquisite artworks crafted from stucco, stone, and metal.

Nalanda is renowned as the oldest university in the Indian subcontinent.

Elaborate security measures are in place as Mr. Modi prepares to visit the historic site. Upon arrival, he was given an in-depth briefing on the ancient ruins by Gautami Bhattacharya, the Superintending Archaeologist of the ASI Patna Circle.

Ahead of his visit to Nalanda today, Mr. Modi shared his thoughts on X, stating, "Today is a momentous occasion for our education sector. The new campus of Nalanda University is set to be inaugurated in Rajgir. Nalanda holds a deep connection to our illustrious past. 

This university will play a crucial role in fulfilling the educational aspirations of our youth.
